Most towns are always safe to visit, though their vicinity might not be (wandering monsters). If you do venture elsewhere, avoid combat before you get stronger. In the beginning you should stay near the Center Avernum area before heading elsewhere, killing goblins, bats and lizards in the dungeons and fortresses, and soonish also the Nephilim (but avoid Nepharim until you're stronger). Each game of the remakes is self-contained: you can't carry over your party from previous games or vice versa.Basically, if you get wiped or keep dying against certain foes, go elsewhere and find something that you can kill, level up, and return to try again at a higher level. UI is entirely navigable with mouse now, but modern screen resolutions may render the game too small for older eyes, so tweaking may still be required (like with the originals).ĭoes stuff carry over to the other games or is each one self-contained?
